Shodhana treatment is effective in cases where the imbalance in dosas have been persistent for a long time. This along with the impairment in agni causes the toxins to get deep seated into the further dhatus and sakas (branches) of the body. In such conditions, first the agni has to be improved, following which the toxins have to be brought to the kosta or digestive tract and then expelled from the body using Pancha karma therapies. Once the body is cleansed, the dosa vitiation will be in localised regions. This is then addressed to bring back balance in dosas.
